5050e idling hot and loud

Just threw a 5050e and an Asus M4A78 Pro into my case, and while it's getting a little busier in there (I have 2 disks running now instead of 1 while I make the transition) the thing runs crazy hot. Tried two pastes, nothing changes. With a Ninja Rev. B. it idles at 43 with the stock scythe fan at 900RPM and an intake at 400RPM. Not quiet or cool at all! My BE-2350 was so quiet and cool... help!

With all the grease swapping were you sure to clean the surfaces WELL in between each swap? I say this becasue a lot of people asume that becasue it looks clean and smooth, its good to go...when in actuality the small groves in the metal on both the HSF and the cpu can still be holding the old paste, and/or Air, which is bad news.

Asuming you know all that already, is the 43C idle the core? or the "cpu" temp that reads from ur mobo sensor...becasue a 43C temp in the cores is not hot at all. In fact, I don't even look at the "cpu" temp that speedfan reads from the mobo. Its not accurate at all and means nothing.

Thanks for the quick reply! I scrubbed hard with rubbing alcohol and made sure to let it dry. I probably could have done slightly better, but I'm getting the same values for both.

I'm using everest and speedfan, oddly they report the same temp for CPU, but different temps for the cores. Looking into it further, each core is reporting 31/32C, which sounds too good to be true and just plain weird.

The HS is actually pretty warm to the touch in my cool room. But I would think that is a good thing - no idea why it's getting so hot, though, just listening to music - and the fan is at 900rpm. Could it be Vista? I've been using XP until today... It's the fan noise that is really bugging me... It would only ramp up to this speed with the 2350 if I was stressing it. When I stress it now the speed barely budges but the temperature gets close to 50C.

30-50C sound pretty close to normal. I've used core temp for monitoring cpu temp in the past. Is it fine now?

Well, overclocked to 2.8 and checked it out under load... core temps stick with the reported CPU temp. 46/46 and 49. I just hope it doesn't get worse if I'm playing a game. Overall I'm just disappointed. I guess I just expected 500-700MHz with no heat/noise penalty, but now I have a feeling these are all the same chip...

It is really loud though, maybe a new cooler is in order... Thanks guys.

Throwing my 2350 back in I can only get to 2.4GHz before I hit the same heat/noise. I guess it's normal. Heh. Sorry guys.

Any amount of extra voltage is going to increase the amount of heat unfortunately. More heat, more noise.

With the wacked out DTS in the Brisbane's it's really impossible to tell. Asus utility should be good enough to keep an eye on things--I use that in conjunction with Coretemp. With Coretemp I used the adjustable offsets to peg the core sensors about 5C over the Asus reported values. My 5050e on a M3A78-EM is at 31 according to the motherboard thermal sensor. The core temps that get reported are 26/23...I have Coretemp bumping those up by 16/14 respectively. My BE-2300 may have ran cooler. But the 5050e gets a lower voltage with CnQ.
