Silent PC for Web Development

Post by atsung168 » Tue Dec 01, 2009 11:44 am

Hi,

I will build a silent PC for my home office (work and light entertainment). I plan to use this new PC for next 2.5 ~ 3 years.

Here are my requirements:
  • (MUST) No gaming
  • (MUST) No overclocking
  • (MUST) Web development in VM
  • (MUST) Multi-tasking : development, downloading and converting movies
  • (MUST) Light photo editing - post process photos from RAW to JPEG
  • (MUST) Will install Windows 2008 x64 (or Windows 7 x64)
  • (NICE) SILENT or VERY QUIET - This PC will be in my bedroom, and I'd like to leave it on 24/7, so I hope it's silent :)
  • (NICE) Compact size
  • (NICE) Dual DVI to support dual monitors
Here is the list of hardware (based on many posts in SPCR forum):
  • CPU: Intel i5 750
  • Mobo: Gigabyte P55M-UD2 mATX
  • CPU Cooler: Xigmatek HDT-S1283
  • RAM: G.SKILL F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL Ripjaws PC3-12800 4GB 2X2GB DDR3-1600 (* 2 = 8GB)
  • HDD: Western Digital WD10EADS Caviar Green 1TB SATA 32MB 3.5IN
  • GPU: ASUS GeForce 9600GT Silent
  • DVD: Samsung SH-S223B/BEBE 22X DVD+-RW SATA
  • CASE: Antec NSK-3480
  • PSU: Corsair VX450 450W
Any comments are welcome!

Thank you in advance.

Alex

If you going to be running virtual machines with development software on them, I'd recommend more than 4gb of RAM.

I don't really know much about CPU cooler, I use the one comes with CPU all the time - this will be my first time using 3rd party CPU cooler/fan and I'd like to get the quietest CPU cooler/fan which can also fits into Antec NSK 3480 case.

Thank you for the information.

look at the mugen 2 review on this website, it has a very quiet fan, and it's cheap, but i don't know how it will fit in your case... it is a very big cpu cooler.
