Hello again -

I truly don't understand cores vs. speed, & the influence that cache can/does have.

Let's ignore the $100 price difference.

Is one likely to be faster than the other for
i) sound recording
ii) photo processing?

Is it (almost) entirely program dependent?

Insight most welcome.

It's almost entirely application dependant. Some programs make use of more than 2 cores, some don't. The newer the program, the more likely it'll make use of more cores.

You can usually find out on the product's support faq.

Maybe these benchmarks can give you a better idea of relative performance.

Looks like the 605e is quite a bit faster in Photoshop.
