Recommendations for external native SATA drive enclosures

Post by quietdragon » Fri Jan 01, 2010 11:53 pm

I'm contemplating a new Mini ITX system with externally mounted hard drives to make drive servicing simpler. I run a simple Linux RAID-1 system comprising two drives.

I don't want an enclosure with built-in USB or RAID functionality.

I think what I'm looking for is something like this:

http://www.satagear.com/USBG-NU411B_SATA_Enclosure.html

I'm not familiar with these vendors. Has anyone dealt with them before?

Features I'm looking for:
  • Good ventilation with space for a large fan and good airflow
  • Support for SATAII (and eSATA perhaps)
  • Separate connection for (at least) two drives
Any suggestions as to products I should consider?
