Need Passive power supply and CPU cooler for my I7-3770k

Post by elec999 » Thu Mar 14, 2013 10:22 am

I have an I7-3770k, I will not use video card, onboard is fine. Will have SSD for hard drive. Just wondering if passive cooling for the CPU is possible, and a good passive power supply. Would a PICO-PSU work?

Semi passive is possible (big tower cooler, case fan nearby) but all passive will be difficult. A picoPSU will work, as the CPU TDP is only 77W.

One of the Streacom heatsink cases might be suitable to make an entirely passive system.

Perhaps. The Streacom FC8 is struggling with the i5 3570K though. Newer better cases will be more efficient, but I still claim all passive is difficult. :)

CPU could be cooled passively, but system will need at least one fan, with good case airflow, to run all out without throttling. imo
