Gigabyte K8NNXP and Standby

Post by hirafu_boarder » Wed Aug 10, 2005 6:32 am

First post from a long time lurker.
Let me start by thanking everyone for making this a friendly and informative forum. No longer need to put up with a noisy environment! :D

I'm hoping someone can tell what's going on with Gigabyte K8NNXP's Standby mode. (Using Sempron 3100+ and Ninja HS and CrystalCPUID)

Room temp is 30C. :(
In idle (Vcore = 0.9v, 800Mhz), get CPU die temp = 37C.
Prime95 for 2 hrs (Vcore = 1.2v, 1.8Ghz), CPU gets to 43C.

Speedfan, MBM and NVidia System Util all show same temp.
Nothing untoward so far.

I usually use Standby mode (BIOS setting to S3) when I'm not using the PC. But when I come out of standby (even if only in for 2 mins) then I get CPU temp = 55C
Letting system idle for 5mins and it gets down to 52C, but stays here regardless of idle time.

All utilities show this temp.
Using external probes on Ninja heatpipe base shows temps of around 29C. Bare-finger-on-heatsink probe backs this up.

I strongly suspect it's a firmware glitch in the motherboard so I'm not too worried.
So just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

Does the temp drop back to normal levels if you restart the computer after resuming from S3?

How hot does it get if you run Prime95 at default voltage/multi (1,4V/9)?

Maybe you'll need a BIOS update...

Cheers,

Jan

Hi Jan, thanks for the suggestions.

If I restart the PC completely then idle and load temps report as normal.

Default CPU settings (1.4V and 1800Mhz) gives temps of 47C.

Actually this very high temp of 50+ is not reported every time I come out of standby, I would say 4 out of 5 times.
I can confirm the CrystalCPUID settings are still correct each time.

I'm on the latest BIOS.(F13)
