Bad Axe 2 vs P5W DH Deluxe in a music workstation

Post by weemies » Sun Feb 11, 2007 5:56 am

I've been looking at these 2 boards. Which board is more stable? I probably won't overclock, but the mobo should be as stable as possible. For the musically inclined, the ASIO performance should be rock solid with very small latency. The Intel board is €40 more, is it worth it? What are the major differences between the two? Should I maybe be looking at other boards?

The computer will be used mainly as a music workstation. Also for web surfing and some gaming for good measure.

Here's what I definitely need in the mobo:
- PCI-e interface for the GPU, of course. No SLi needed or wanted.
- At least one additional PCI-e -slot (x1, x4 or x16 - any of them will do), which I need for my digital TV-tuner card.
- At least 1 regular PCI -slot
- Passive chipset cooling preferred, almost a must (can be fixed later if I had to)
- Built in ethernet is a must, and a built in WiFi-adapter would be great
- Scythe Ninja CPU cooler (the original) must fit

I'd appreciate your help on this.

Hands down, Intel Bad Axe 2. Intel boards are the most stable boards I have ever used. I will be getting a Bad Axe 2 myself when I build my C2D system later on this year. If you are ever trying to figure out which mobo to buy for an Intel platform with no intention of overclocking, Intel boards should definitely be looked at.

Any thoughts about the Intel DG965WH; it has integrated GPU wich is more than o.k. for what I need.
Is it compatible with the Ninja ???
I'm trying to go passive with a E4300 processor, is that possible

I think everybody got you already. How about deleting a couple of those reposts?

weemies, did you make your decision yet? I've been wandering back and forth between these two boards, unable to decide which one to buy!

Sure, the 4300's are done passive a lot, with the troubles only if you add a lot of heat with excess overclock or a hot vid card. I'd think the PSU+ a 120 mm case fan at 1000 rpm or less can do the job.
