Installed Vista 64bit and it still doesn't show my 4G of RAM

Post by boze » Thu Mar 01, 2007 6:24 pm

the amount of RAM in Vista's System Properties is listed as 2,815meg.

My newly built pc's mobo is an Asus P5B-VM, which i've read has problems like this sometimes. but the Userguide makes it sounds like that's just a problem with 32bit OS's.

Any ideas? I haven't tried putting them in different slots (currently it's a 2gig G.Skill stick in A1 and A2).

BIOS is the newest one - ram is G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) PC2 6400 and the voltage is 1.8V to 1.9V.

I haven't tried to adjust any voltage settings in setup either, but mostly because I don't know what I'm doing.

I've googled several threads about that sort of thing with this board: not all fo the ram showing up - but haven't seen anything like a solution.

thanks for any advice.....

this is just a guess but you could have dead slots....

Have you tried enabling the memory remapping feature in the BIOS?
That should fix it.

yay!

enabling memory remapping is the only thing i did and it fixed it right up. ram reads as 3.93 now.

wihew!

thanks so much plissken - i just installed vista tonight after putting this box together last weekend so it's nice to have the ram thing straightened out before bedtime.
