quad goals and quiet computing

Post by Wedge » Wed Jul 11, 2007 5:57 pm

I am wanting to go with a quad core because I am very interested in being able to run multiple operating systems by way of virtualization or virtual PC'ing (not quite sure what the distinction between these two is yet).

The Q6600 is clocked at 2.4GHz, but comparably hotter than an E6600 because we have twice the cores. At another popular hardware site (AT), many talk about the high heat output of the quad - granted many of these guys are also overclocking.

I guess my questions goes to those who currently have a quad-core conroe. Are these processor capable of cool and quiet operation? Can they be undervolted perhaps? What are your experiences?

there is a new G0 stepping of the Q6600 due out at the end of the month or early August

this is 10 degrees cooler TDP wise 95w I think

or you can wait till the Yorkdale quads which will be at the end of the year - which will run even cooler, faster but be more expensive

or wait of AMD's quads as well
