OC on the fly with nTune that came with the 8500GT, and undervolted with CrystalCPU to 1.3V to make cooling easier. pi stable for a few hours before running the test:

I've not let the ntune thingy run its own check to see how high it can get, automatically. it takes ages and I don't want to lose connectivity when it inevitably crashes.

checked the data, and saw you made my winchester an x2.
I wish...

also seems you misplaced the stock data. see earlier in the thread.

I corrected it, Acook. Sorry about that. I didn't do the stock data since you had so many other things running at the time. I noticed even on my quad that having a bunch of stuff open in the background can actually lower your results. You game to run it @ stock levels clean?

heh, you'll like this comparison then:

X2 4200+ 11x200 2200MHz stock, AM2 Windsor, 90nmm 1.3V.
Asus M2A-VM HDMI, ATI RS690/RS690M
2x1GB Kingston Valueram DDR2 @ 244.4MHz 4.0-4-4-12-17-1T (cpuz memory page top-bottom)

everything stock, brandspanking new xp2 install, new pc for someone. will write about it later somewhere, really nice for a budget.

@dark: I think the multiplier on your chip is maxed out @ 10.5 can you report the multi and fsb? Also, what is the clock speed of the RAM (800 is the specs right?) Can you post the CPUz.html dump?

Updated the Intel table. It now contains several Yorkfield ES chips including:

Xeon E5330 (Dual board)
Q9550
Q9350

I know the GF7050PV chipset has hardware acceleration for H.264 encoding/decoding, which this test doesn't seem to take advantage of. I'm glad, because it seems to put things on a level playing field.

Updated the tables with another 45 nm chip: the QX9650 -- both at stock levels and @ overclocked to 4.2 GHz! With it, and the others (Xeon E5330 (Dual board), Q9550, and Q9350) there is now data on 4 different 45 nm chips.

One thing that I found striking about these new chips is that they are only marginally faster than their 65 nm counterparts when encoding x264 (about 5-6 % faster with all other factors being equal or close to equal). Have a look at the general trends table for the Kentsfield vs. Yorkfield comparison at the official host.

First off, thanks to all who contributed data.

24-Feb-2008 - Finally updated the data tables on the x264 benchmark page. They are now html based (not .gif images) which makes my life updating them much easier and I will keep this tables up-to-date daily as people post results. Have a look at the 'Data Tends' table that contains a look at the Phenom quad vs. both Kentfield and Yorkfield quads. There are also some comparisons of Wolfdale dual vs. Conroe dual, and some other good stuff.
