Underclocking X2 5600+

Post by Sizzy » Thu Mar 13, 2008 11:03 am

Hi guys,

I want to share my experience underclocking & undervolting my AMD 5600+ CPU. I manage to use only 0.975v at 2 GHz (200MHz x 10). This seems to be the sweet spot as any higher speed will lock WinXP. I can't use a .5x multiplier but even increasing the FSB by a few MHz will cause lockup.

As fas as vcore goes, I manage to boot at 0.95v but it fail to load windows. At 0.975v it is completely stable. I have been running Orthos for 4+ hours with no issues. Here is the screen shot

What do you guys think ? :)

Currently I am using the stock heatsink. The CPU fan reads 0 because my motherboard, Gigabyte MA69G-S3H, can't read the fan speed below 3000 rpm. It simply reads 0 even though the fan is actually spinning.

Interesting info - thanks for sharing :) How many watts do you estimate you have saved over the stock frequency/vcore setup?
