New mobo for my Q9550??

Post by boze » Sun May 03, 2009 4:01 pm

I just jumped on a one day deal for a Q9550 from Dell for $200 only to discover that my Asus P5B-VM doesn't support snazzy newer 1333 MHz FSB CPUs.

Sooo, it looks like the path of least resistance is to get a new Micro ATX mobo. I scoured the Asus boards and while the P5B-Deluxe has been updated to support the latest Quad Core CPUs the P5B-VM hasn't had a BIOS update in a full year and only supports up to the Q6700.

This is the build, although I added a nicer heatsink and case fan.

I was looking at the P5Q - VM from Newegg for $120, but it lacks Firewire and I have a Focusrite audio interface that needs a fw port.

Any suggestions for me?

can't recall if it has an onboard firewire connector; but you can always get a firewire card.

Can't recall if what has onboard firewire?
Did you mean to include a link or a name of a board?
