Which AMD Heatsinks have correct fan orientation?

Post by Lord09 » Tue Jul 14, 2009 3:29 pm

I just bought an AMD BE 955 and Asus motherboard and was just wondering if people knew which of the latest heatsinks fit with the fans facing the correct direction ( West-East, versus North-South ).

Just looking at the recommended heatsinks, do the follow mount correctly:

Thermalright HR-01 Plus
Xigmatek HDT-S1283
Noctua NH-U12P

Thanks all.

From your list, only the NH-U12P has the mounting hardware required to install on a AMD platform in the orientation you want.

The HR-01 plus could probably be used as well but you would need to purchase an additionnal S-clip bracket to make it work and it's been a while since i saw that in stock. And i never actually saw a build using it. You would also need to make sure the clip clears any capacitors/obstacles on your motherboard. There were also talks about the HR-01-X being used on a AMD platform as well but i never saw any confirmation so far.

Another cooler that is able to mount the right way is the Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer.

Hope it helps !

Thanks all,

Anyone know if

-Zerotherm Zen
-Scythe Ninja 2
-Scythe Mugen 2

Generally have any clearance problems? I have an ASUS M4A79T Deluxe board.

According to the NH-U12P manf. website, it should fit my MB fine, so I'm leaning towards that.

The Zen FZ120 with stock fan installed front-back prevents me from using a tall memory module (Corsair DHX, G.Skill PI Black) on the first DDR slot on a Biostar TA790GX XE mobo. Nice cooler though.
You should be good with naked/short heatspreader modules or if your CPU socket is farther away from the nearest DIMM slot.

The Sunbeam core contact and the Zerotherm Zen are both discontinued (in the UK anyway)

This looks perfect but it's not available anywhere that I can find. Does anyone know about availability?

I have the Mugen 2 on an Asus M4N72E mobo in an Antec Solo with no clearance problems.

These 2 also work:

-- Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme Rev. C

-- Prolimatech Megahalems Rev.B (with AM2/3 kit)

The new Noctua NH-U12P only mounts north-south, so no workie no more..
