Socket 1156 / mATX & Coolers

Post by diver » Tue Nov 10, 2009 3:17 pm

Has anyone around here built a mATX system with one of the new socket 1156 mobo's from Gigabyte, ASRock or Asus? The CPU socket is pretty far from the top of the board and the video card needs to be put in the first slot. I am wondering if there is enough room for a Xigmatek SD1283 or similar sized 120mm tower cooler without hitting the back of the video card.

[Even if the video card will work in the 4th slot tehre is not enough clearance with small mATX cases for one with a decent cooler.]

My "old" computer was built on the Gigabyte p55m-ud4 and i did use a Zerotherm NV120 and have no problems with space betwen it and my GTX 280 in the first PCI-e 16x slot.

I just built a system with the Gigabyte P55M-UD2 and the XIGMATEK SD 1284 and it fits, but is very close to the Sapphire Radeon 4550 video card -- maybe a quarter-inch away.
