P6X58D-E vs. Sabertooth X58 ?

Post by guermantes » Tue Oct 05, 2010 2:40 am

Hi,

I was going to get an ASUS P6X58D-E motherboard for my i7 950, but now ASUS just released a cheaper and it seems to me cooler (temperature-wise) board, the Sabertooth X58.

I've looked at the specs and they seem pretty identical regarding ports and memory and stuff. When it comes to capacitors and MOSFETs I don't know how to tell a good one from a bad one so there I am lost.

The Sabertooth seems to me to be an identical board, but cheaper and possibly cooler as well. Thus it would be a much better buy.

Am I missing something?

Thanks a lot!

Sabertooth has x16/x16/x4 compared to the P6X58D-E which has x16/x8/x8 or x16/x16/1 (you can change it in the BIOS).

Other than that the Sabertooth looks like a better board. Go for it if you don't plan on 3-way SLI/CF (which, as a silencer, you probably don't) or x8 RAID controllers.
