I guess it's good RAM and Flash prices have crashed - it'll offset the cost of new mobos ;)

Anandtech's overview of two MSI X570 mobos- the top end Godlike and the middle of the stack ACE. Both have semi-passive fan solution for the chipset. Hopefully, it'll be across the board...and mostly passive for average use. :)

Uh, bad news, flash prices will increase 5-10% at least due to a massive power outage at the manufacturing plants of WD and Toshiba:

on the topic of pricing though, I'm just waiting for the X470 vs X570 benchmarks... at this point, it will be cheaper even to buy a X470 and the cheapest old ryzen to upgrade the bios.

Thats some interesting news, hope it doesnt become the new DDR price gauge thing. But Toshiba + WDC = 35% of the market share... so we might see the pricing kinda stall if this is really that bad.

I think the budget builds are going to be B450 (like MSI Tomahawk) + Ryzen 3600, X570 just seems to be too expensive all around, and while it offers upgrades like PCI 4.0 i dont think its worth it on budget build, but we are a week away from seeing it on reviews. Personally im going to wait till September to see how the 3950x releases in terms of clocks and temperature, but Threadrippers will be a couple of months away, and probably intel 10 core.

I was thinking of upgrading to Ryzen 3000 series...

but I realized I don't really use my PC anymore. I used to play tons of Arma 3 Wasteland and thanks to them running that for-profit (donations) and RHS now allowing server owners to profit anymore, they canned the whole mod. But won't release their code so other people who actually like the mode can use it? Of course not.

So since then I use it as a Plex server with a single 1080p stream and that's about it.

Maybe the only time I use my PC is unrarring files (for Plex) and when I play Rocket League and someone uses Plex for that single 1080p stream, I get some lag.

So I figure I am best off upgrading to a Ryzen 1000 series except I don't know where people get bargains from because a cursory look on Ebay UK reveals people selling them for the same price as a new 2700X ?

OC3D TV Gigabyte Aorus X570 Xtreme Preview

It certainly looks impressive in a lot of aspects, more so the passive chipset, but what baffle me is the microphone, and according to the preview, you can setup the fan profiles according to the noise, maybe its a gimmick but certainly got my attention.

That is unexpected! A noise monitor, built into the motherboard?

There is a noise detection header which needs to be used with the included noise detection cable. The noise detection cable has a mic on the end of it. The decibel values read by the noise detection header/cable can be accessed with Gigabyte's APP Center System Information Viewer software. System Information Viewer can record system status over a period of time, this may include the noise detection values.

Techpowerup compares X470 vs X570 performance and finds:
With this data, and the data from our PCIe gen 4.0 scaling article, we are happy to report that you can save yourself anywhere between $70 to $150 by choosing an X470 motherboard over an X570 variant. There are no tangible performance gains to be had as there is no apparent overclocking headroom increase with our review cooling solution and memory kit (which uses Samsung B-die), and certainly nothing is to be gained from PCIe gen 4.0 for now. You even get the added benefit of a motherboard chipset that truly runs Cool & Quiet.

While most sites and youtube channels released their reviews of the 3900x/3700x, GamerNexus released a review of the 3600, which imo is a very interesting offering as its pricing is low and the performance is fairly good for a budget build, AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU Review & Benchmarks: Strong Recommendation.

Hardwared Unboxed has also testing with a B450, AMD Ryzen 9 3900X & Ryzen 7 3700X Review, Zen 2 Has Arrived!, which has as techpowerup similar performance to x570, i think the 3600 + B450 is going to be a very good value combo, here a similar but with the 3700x, BUDGET STREAMING ON A WHOLE NEW LEVEL | 3700X + B450 + RX 5700 = Production & RENDERING BEAST

Yep - read the Gamer's Nexus review yesterday. The Ryzen 5 3600 looks good. Nice performance within the power envelope compared to i5-9600.

reddit feedback on chipset fan noise looks decidedly mixed, with claims of "super quiet" (msi pro carbon), both "loud even on silent mode" and "I can't really hear it over the stock 3900X cooler" on the same model (asrock taichi), and fans permanently going at 100% on some gigabyte boards (this doesn't sound good, though a gigabyte rep said they'd look into it). obviously all of that should be taken with a large grain of salt, but it's probably worth waiting for discrete motherboard reviews before picking up an x570 if noise is a concern.

A very interesting article was done by techpowerup about memory and how it affects ryzen 3000

TechPowerUp AMD Zen 2 Memory Performance Scaling with Ryzen 9 3900X

In past gens, Samsung B-die has been the most compatible memory for Ryzen, seems this gen is a little more flexible, but i would still recommend going with G.SKILL Flare X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) AMD X370 / B350 Memory (Desktop Memory) Model F4-3200C14D-16GFX, a little more expensive but imo well worth it, in my past builds just one click by enabling xmp ran perfect, while a lot of other memories i had to tweak them manually and not all reached their rated speeds/timings.

Seems undervolting has good temperature drops on ryzen 3000, this will vary as its a silicon lottery, but none the less seems very interesting for lower rpm operation.

he pulled that video and posted a follow-up. in summary, bios vcore undervolting can show stability and better clock speeds while still causing some performance degradation. using the ryzen master software, you can undervolt while locking the cores to a given value. this will generally result in some single threaded performance loss, but has less (or even improved) performance impact on multi-core workloads while enjoying some thermal benefit.

New Gigabyte X570 BIOSes adds three profiles positions for the chipset fan
Users reported high pitch whines and a lot of noise with the first release models of their motherboards. Gigabyte is now adding three selectable fan profiles to their new BIOSes though.

AMD Ryzen 5 3600 vs. 3600X, Is The 'X' Worth It?

The 3600 + Scythe Mugen5 will still be with in the price of the 3600x.

Seems like not. Especially if you are going to upgrade the cooler anyway.
