Who besides NewEgg

Post by Jeff Cutsinger » Mon Dec 17, 2007 9:58 am

I'm going to build a computer in about a month or so (specs coming soon). Very exciting and all, but since I now live in Tennessee, NewEgg charges (~10%!) sales tax (they have a warehouse in Memphis. I say we should just give Arkansas Memphis anyway).

Where should I buy my PC from, given that I can't get it from NewEgg?

www.zipzoomfly.com has pretty good prices on many things (slightly better than newegg), but lack many silent pc specific items like fans and heatsinks. The fans and heatsinks I'd recommend you use www.sidewindercomputers.com , that company is great for those type of things, again very competative w/ neweggs prices and ships fast.

I use mainly

newegg.com
zipzoomfly.com
buy.com

Buy.com has many rebates not available on newegg.com, and they always have free shipping (for all the stuff I bought from them at least).

ZipZoomFly is great. Used it many times.

ChiefValue is newegg's sister site, try that if you find a better deal; not sure about the location of their warehouses though.

Don't buy from ZipZoomFly! Their service is complete crap. I went through a hell of a time with them when I built my workstation. Sure, I saved about $50 total on the parts (CPU & PSU) compared to Newegg's prices at the time, but their processing, delivery, and customer service is a disaster.

Jab-Tech, endpcnoise, and NCIX will be much more pleasant experiences; I can especially vouch for Jab-Tech.

In addition to those already mentioned, I've had good luck with http://www.provantage.com
