[dead] WD 1TB GP drive $190 at buy.com

Post by JazzJackRabbit » Thu Mar 20, 2008 9:16 am

Warning:
Since I created this thread buy.com has edited tech specs page and it does not mention WD drive anymore. So I would strongly advise against ordering from buy.com now.

Topic says all. Not sure if it's Retail or OEM or what's the warranty. Buy.com though claims 3 year warranty, if true, that should be enough.

Check out reseller ratings of Buy.com. The company has a terrible rating. I have known Buy.com to sell refurbished products as new.

The description says WD10AECS drive with 3 year warranty, which means it should be a new product, not refurbished. I do see your point though, buy.com doesn't have stellar feedback. Next lowest price is $224 at zipzoomfly.

Based on the description of a product I ordered from Buy.com I should have received a new item but the item I received was refurbished. Buy.com has also been known to ship open box items as new. Representations made by Buy.com CANNOT be relied upon.

The buy.com item says it is manufactured by Cavalry, a manufacturer of external hard drives. It is my understanding that only WD itself sells new WD hard drives - either retail or OEM.

OP, how did you determine this was in fact a WD GP drive?

When I posted the link if you clicked on the Tech Specs tab it would say WD10AECS for model number which is WD 1TB GP drive model and 5400-7200RPM speed which was another indicator that this was GP drive.

However, it would appear that since I posted this thread buy.com has edited tech specs and they no longer say it is a WD GP drive.

Given the fact that edited specs do not mention WD drives anywhere, I would strongly advise against ordering from buy.com now.

Received my order from buy.com. It is indeed WD GreenPower 1TB SATA HDD with 3 years warranty to 03/2011.

$169.99 (with GCO) for 1TB HDD, good deal.
