Sonata's TP380S fan swap question

Post by kadiir » Tue Mar 30, 2004 1:38 pm

Hello:

I'm going to get a Panaflo L1A. I was going to buy from frozencpu.com & they're asking for what kind of tail I want - none, 3 pin, or 4 pin.

Which one should I purchase? Also, I couldn't tell from the review pics, but how does the fan connect to the PSU? It looks like a 2 pin connector. Is it or is it indeed a 3 pin (fingers crossed)? If the former, how does the RPM wire get connected?

Thanks!

You want the 3-pin if you want to connect it to one of your motherboard headers, or the 4-pin if you want to connect it directly to your power supply. NOTE: If you want to use the Zalman Fanmate, you should get the 3-pin header.

There is no RPM monitoring with the L1A, so that wire doesn't exist on the 3-pin headers.

You need to see how the existing fan is connected to your PSU. Many PSU's do have 2 pin connectors (mine did). I soldered the wires to the existing connector from the old fan.

As was suggested above, you could also connect the PSU fan to the motherboard (3-pin) or a power connector external to the PSU (4-pin).

I want to replace the fan inside the PSU.

So, it'll be connecting to the pins on the PSU PCB where the existing PSU fan connects.

I can't answer the question myself as 1) I'm at work & want to order it now, and 2) I'd have take the PSU out of my system & take it apart to check it.

3 pin

It fits onto the socket inside the psu

Check the sonata psu mod threads here for more details

Thanks - I've been looking through the site but haven't found one that said that specific tidbit of info.
