Sooooooo tempted by this PSU, anyone have an opinion ?

Post by Jimmy 10 Thumbs » Sun Jan 16, 2005 2:21 pm

I searched for any reviews or posts about this PSU but came up blank.

I guess I should state before everyone jumps on me for liking a PSU with pretty lights and shiny things on it, I'm mainly attracted to this thing because I've really liked everything I've ever bought from aerocool before, and I have never had problems with a single purchase from them.

Of course, with a PSU it's a whole different game, but this unit seems to be getting decent reviews, so of course I figured where better to ask but in here.

The PSU in question is the Aerocool Aeropower II+ Acrylic-Titanium Plated 450W.

If anyone has any experience with this PSU, I'd be interested to hear any comments.

Cheers,

J-10-T

It's quite nice actually. I'm planning to buy one, except it's the Black/Silver line. They say it's quiet, not sure if spcr quiet though ;)

Reviews heh?

Yeah, thanks for linking those reviews. As I said, most of the reviews I have read have been very positive.

However, the two CONs identified by the first review you linked do concern me. Those being the lack of a 2nd 12V rail, and no PFC.

What this comes down to is, can I get a quieter, better, more reliable, funkier PSU for similar money in the UK.

Right now, I'm struggling between the boring and safe, and the cool and scary.

Hence the call for advice.

As you look at the Aerocool website you can see there is a USA version and another version. The other version must have at least passive PFC otherwise it can't be sold in the EU.

Edit: Do you call that reviews? They didn't even screw it open, to look at the insides.

Only the european ones have Active PFC. Here, another review, it mentions PFC.

I think it is because Oden (English: Odin) is a non-christian god... And as far as I know, most Portuguese are christians -- someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't quite understand the bible belt reference, though. Why did you ask?

This is very flame worthy, but the US Bible Belt is just one of the areas that George W. Bush is very popular in. Typically, Evangelists are very popular there as well.

So being a non-Christian in the Bible Belt is highly unusual. Hence the inquiry of whether Portugal is the EU's equivalent of the Bible Belt.

I guess you can say that...

Like I said, it's quiet. Maybe not spcr quiet (i.e. silent), but it's quiet.
