What's recommended available 400+W supply for Nforce4 PCIe

Post by ferdb » Mon Jan 31, 2005 10:43 am

Need to build two quiet systems, both Nforce4 based (not SLI) PCIe. They will have med-high end power sucking graphics cards in them, Fast clocked 90nm AMD64s, and 4 SATA drives in each. I'm intending to build these in Antec SLK3000B cases, with XP-120 HSF.
If anybody has comments or suggestions about these components I'd appreciate it.
I'm unsure what my best option is for a PSU. Do I need ATX 2.0, 20 or 24 pin etc.? I need something that is currently available. If there is something in the 300-400W range that will do the job that's fine but I'd like to err on the high side in case of upgrades and expansions.

It's quite hard to find any PSU's that will work at the moment.

You will need an EPS PSU with 24pin + 4pin 12V connector.

The only one I found is the Antec 550W EPS, (not quiet).

There doesnt seem to be a lot of info around about this, the Phantom, or Neopower may do the trick, but I'm not sure.

Andy

PS: Good Luck.

EPS is an extension to the standard ATX power supply specification, originally designed for servers, that includes support for higher currents and a 24-pin main connector, and an 8-pin 12V connector.

You don't really need an EPS PSU to support the new PCIe motherboards, but you do need a PSU that includes a 24-pin power connector, or failing that, a suitable adaptor.
This includes the Seasonic Rev. A3 PSUs at 400W and above, as well as several other newer models of PSU.
A power plug for PCIe graphics cards is also useful, though most PCIe graphics cards that need one will come with an adaptor.
