My Enermax 420W Noisetaker.

Post by JamesL » Thu Feb 24, 2005 2:31 am

I've been roaming the site for a while prior to building my current rig and I thought I should contribute something back to the site.

And as a marketing student you learn facts like, ~80% of people will tell someone if they've had a bad experience with a product, whilst ~20% will tell others if they had a good experience.

Anyway, enough chit chat.

The biggest gripe (noisewise) I have with my build is the PSU, namely an Enermax 420W Noisetaker.

The 80mm exhaust fan was horrendous, I'll say it clicked a lot and made a huge racket. I've taken that out, and now the bottom 92mm fan is annoying me with it's whirring sounds, so that'll probably be replaced by a Nexus 92mm fan when I get around to it.

Just thought I'd share my experience with this, granted it could be a relatively isolated incident.

Oh yeah, with the Silverstone TJ06 case, the Enermax's CPU plug doesn't reach the mobo, least not the one for the MSI Neo2 Platinum.

There's gotta be differences with noisetakers.. my 370w is very quiet and have not yet ramped up. Mine is with active PFC. Just because it's a noisetaker doesn't mean it's exactly the same, return your unit and get another..

I'm well aware this unit might be a discrepancy and an isolated instance.

But initially I couldn't be bothered returning it as I brought it from a vendor on the other side of the country.

Secondly, I've now voided the warranty with my small modification.

My Noisetaker 2.0 420W would ramp up during gaming sessions so I recently replaced it with a Antec Neopower 480W. So far the neopower is pretty darned nice, it doesnt ramp up during gaming and during idle sessions you can hear a faint whirring sound but thats about it. I suppose the only thing better would be a Phantom 500W.

I was so impressed with my noisetaker 370W, I've just ordered another. I guess there's bound to be variations between samples, but I can't fault mine :)

My noisetaker 370W is also very quiet when not ramped up. And it barely ramps up, no case fans either.
