Seasonic S12-600 or Enermax EG701AX

PSUs: The source of DC power for all components in the PC & often a big noise source.

Seasonic S12-600 or Enermax EG701AX

Post by AMGPilot » Thu Mar 24, 2005 5:04 pm

Hello everyone,

I am creating a list for the next computer I am going to build and I would like to get your opinion on something :)

I am considering the Seasonic S12-600 or the Enermax EG701AX-VE-SFMA24P. Which one would you choose and why?

Thanks :D

Hello and welcome to SPCR.

I would choose none of those two because they are much to powerful for my needs. What other components do you have on your list?

Agree with Tephras, probably too much power.

Especially the S12 500W and 600W versions are louder than the <420W, IIRC.

Enermax

VP,

The 600w enermax has the same fans as the 370w model. I am using a 475w model and the fan speed always seems to stay the same, so I suspect they will not ramp up in the 600w model. The seasonic 500w 600w models have a different and noisier fan that the 430w and lesser models. Consequently I would just wait for the 600w seasonic review. - FG

Thank you to everyone that replied :)

After your comments and a bit more research I have decided to go with the Enermax 485 Watt PSU. I found it at a decent price and it is also ATX+12V Ver 2.0 compliant.

The system I am considering building is as follows:

Antec P180 Case (if it is ever released)
AMD Athlon 64 3800+
MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum nForce4 Ultra
Patriot PDC1G3200+XBLK 1GB Kit DDR400 PC3200 Dual Channel Memory
Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300GB Serial ATA HD
Nexus 120mm Case Fans

The only things I haven't quite decided on is the CPU cooler and the video card :)

With those components even a 300W PSU should be enough. I would choose the Seasonic S12-330 or S12-380, maybe the S12-430 if you are planning to get a power hungry video card.

Agreed. A 300 or 350 watt PSU should be plenty to manage that list of components.
