Chieftec 410 Watt 120mm pfc PSU any good ?

Post by Dutch » Wed Apr 20, 2005 12:06 am

I just got a new Chieftec LBX-02 case that came with a "free" 410 Watt PSU.
Initially I thought it would be a free 360Watt.
First thing I did was to take it out and move in my 400 Watt Zalman and move over the rest of my system. When cleaning up I found this Chieftec PSU. To my suprise it appeared to be a 410 Watt with 120mm pfc controlled fan.

Who has experience with this PSU ?. Is it any good ?. I think it can be rather silent in a not su power-hungry system. I can't find any reviews though.

For the Chieftec case, I'm quite happy with it so far. The ony issue are the harddisk mounts/rails which can't be taken out easily. There is no damping. I took the case because of it's door that covers all drives AND switches AND is lockable. Yes, I've got young kids...

I don't know if it is any good by SPCR standards (quiet) but you can probably get about $25 for it on Ebay if it is still new.

Hi Dutch,

can you give us the model number? Atleast one higher-end 120mm model from Chieftec = Enhance = Akasa Paxpower. I've had the Akasa, but returned it within a week. The fan was just horrible. But it might make a good PSU if modded with a better fan. If it's one of the lower-end Chieftec 120mm PSUs, then I'm guessing eBay could be your friend.

The modelnumber is:
Chieftec 410Watt
ATX-410-212
ATX 12V2.0 PFC

I could only find reviews in Polish...
I agree that good in SPCR terms is difficult to accomplice. In general, it didn't look like a bad PSU and was rather heavy and well buid too. Cables organised OK, easy release connectors etc. The only negative point I saw was a rather obstructive metal area where the air has to exit the PSU.

It's not the higher-end model I hoped for :)

however, it doesn't seem too bad. The fan is probably a D12SM-12, not a bad fan at all. You just have to check how the PSU fan speeds up when loaded. Chieftec PSUs in general should be OK, regarding lifetime.

Not sure if it applies to your PSU, but in Hungary several 410W/120mm Ct PSUs died. AFAIK no damage done to other parts, but watch your psu...

Does anyone know how the 410-212 model compares to the 420-302 dual fan model in terms of noise?
Dutch: Does 410-212's fan has variable rpm?
