Can I buy a Seasonic PS in Australia
Does anyone know of a store or online store that I can buy a S12 power supply from in Australia?

Zalman PSUs?
The best I have come up with so far for Aus, are the Zalman 300W and 400W psus with Panaflo fan swaps and EAR fan mounts. But I did all the work myself. Unfortunately the Enermax Noisetaker AX series are also not available in Aus, except for the monster 600W version.

Hi Guys
I too am looking at getting a seasonic s12 600w in Australia and have turned to importing one from overseas. The question now is does anyone know of a cheap/reliable online store that ships to Australia? At this stage I've looked into ewiz and silicon accoustics but was wondering if there were any other options as they both work out fairly pricey
thanks in advance

Nope, Seasonic are not available in Australia from any retail stores. You'll have to order one in, if you can find an international shop who is willing to ship o/s.
I've just bought one of these:
485W Enermax EG495P-VE-SFMA Noisetaker $105
It's the Passive AFC version (rather than "Active" [aka the AX series]), but that doesn't make a difference to its performance, noise level or cost of electricity to you.

I'm importing a 500HT at the moment from koolnquiet in the UK - they have Nexus fans too. Prices are OK, but shipping costs add a bit of a burden!
There also seems to be Seasonic importer in NZ, but only of the smaller ones.
Look at www.koolnquiet.co.uk - Paul there is very helpful, certainly better than a US mob I found who quoted $254 for a S12-600 + $354 for shipping - like US$600 total !!

Seasonic S12 power supplies will be available in Australia from http://www.pccasegear.com.au within 3-4 weeks.
NOOOOOOOO!!! Don't tell me that!chylld wrote:Seasonic S12 power supplies will be available in Australia from http://www.pccasegear.com.au within 3-4 weeks.
Oh well, maybe it's the excuse I needed to build a new HTPC
Yep, PCCaseGear are great, highly recommended.
AusPCMarket are also good. Huge range, but a bit pricier than other companies.
I bought my Enermax EG495P NoiseTaker from MacoTechnology in Sydney. Highly recommended too, my PSU was delivered the same day I ordered it!

yeh maco pccg and auspcmarket are all great retailers i got my latest psu from auspcmarket and actually drove out there cos i needed it asap.
i think once pccg starts listing seasonic power supplies, other retailers (like the aforementioned) will follow suit. just give it some time
Tim: at least this way you won't be tempted to upgrade for 3-4 weeks

Hopefully you're right about other retailers following suit. I'd imaging that PCCG might even have a nice little import market to on-sell to other retailers. Certainly they'd be the only company importing them into Aust at that time. Lucky them!
True. It'll probably also save me an ear-bashing from my wife! "There's only two of us in this house, what are you going to do with another computer?"at least this way you won't be tempted to upgrade for 3-4 weeks
got it directly from the importer Altech. Ended up costing me $250 delivered so cheaper/similar to what the seasonic 600 was going to set me back, kinda of glad I ended up with this option noisewise as any fan is going to be louder than this (the 8cm fan hasn't kicked in on it yet) although I'm going to have to keep my eyes on case temps for a little while. I'm considering running the desktop case lidless to keep it nice an cool (seeing as there's no fans it doesn't make it any louder (can here the hdd slightly more) Other than it being ugly I'm wondering if there are many downsides to doing this i.e will emi effect my hdtv tuner cards more etc.Tim_U wrote:Lucky bastard
Where'd you get if from and how much did you pay?
Tim.
Yeah keep in mind that's reseller pricing but a search on staticice revealed some places are selling fairly close to that price!
main specs of my htpc are
CPU - AMD64 3000+ Venice @ 2.5ghz (most of the time rmclock has it sitting at 1.7ghz at 1.1V) cooled by a zalman 7000a-CU fan spins at less than 1000rpm under load (can't read rpm accurately) but fan turns off most of the time at idle
Motherboard - DFI LP NF4-Ultra-D with a zalman Northbridge Cooler
Ram - OCZ 2 x 512mb PC3200 Value VX (probably a silly choice but the ammount it overclocks and the price was hard to refuse takes a lot of voltage and puts out a bit of heat though)
Video Card - Gigabyte 6600gt Passive Cooler PCIex
Sound card - Chaintech AV-710.. gotta have bitperfect
TV Tuner - currently DNTV Dual USB Tuner (two tuners on one bracket)
HDD - Maxtor SATA 300gb 16mb cache (suspended with some elastic but still noisiest thing in the pc grrr)
DVD - NEC 3250a (slowed down with nero cd-speed)
PSU - Phantom 500
Case - A crappy Aopen Desktop I got for $30 I spraypainted it black and it's doing the job for now I have no case fans at all and it really could do with atleast 1 but any increase in noise bugs me. It does have to 60mm mount in the back right near the cpu/ram/psu and it's very tempting to put a fan in there but I would need to find a fan that is quieter than the hdd. Final option would be to mount my 120mm papst somewhere (either a side blow hole or on the roof of the case. Main worry with this would be hacking a hole that big in the case at the risk it might be too noisy and at this stage I havn't seen any of the rubber fan mounts locally?
It's certainly tricky building a silent/high performance pc but I think I'm finally getting there it was much easier in the old days where I just chucked 20 high speed fans in the case and bought whatever hdd, video card without running multiple searches on spcr first

That looks nice! Kinda like a beefed up, 64bit version of mine. sortaSlayer wrote:main specs of my htpc are

nup, none that I've found. I had EAR inc send me a sample box of HDD and fan mounts. They're really great. The other option is to use Ralf's cable-tie method to silently mount the fan. It doesn't help with hacking a hole in the case though... but for 30bucks, do you really care?at this stage I havn't seen any of the rubber fan mounts locally?
True, but it's SO worth it in the end, isn't it!It's certainly tricky building a silent/high performance pc

Woohoo, great news that Aussies can get these Seasonics PSU.
Just wondering how much noise improvement would I get moving from the Enmernax Noisetaker 420W -----> S12 430?
I was about to order the S12 430 until I found out that the PSU has ADDA fans, which replaced the quiet Yate Loon ones.
Also, how can I tell if the Phantom 350 isnt from the problematic batch? Ive been told to look for a blue sticker.

i haven't heard either the s12 or the enermax personally, but given the popularity of the s12 amongst spcr members and the fact that the enermax is also called the 'noisemaker', i'd reckon there'd be a good deal of silence to be gained
if you're shopping for a fanless psu, i'd recommend the silverstone st-30nf over the phantom 350, it has a much better track record and i've been using one in my system without problems. if you must insist on the antec though, Rod over at lownoisepc told me that he's had no phantom returns, and he's sold double digits of them. that should be a safe place to buy them from, he's a cool dude plus he's aware of the phantom problems having had one fail on him himself just keep your fingers crossed and you should get a working phantom.
