New passive/active Nexus psu

Post by Erssa » Tue Oct 25, 2005 1:44 am

Nexus has released a new psu. The psu fan starts to spin when the psu reaches 44 celsius. Looks like the old psu with a new fan controller, but I'd like to see how this works in a case like P180. Pricing should be decent, 69.90e here in Finland.

Looks very interesting. Would like to see a bit more power though.

For what would you need more power?

If you'd stick an A64 X2 and two hot graphics cards in an SLI setup in a case you won't stay below the temp tresholds anyway.

This one might prove to be noisy in a high-power system with less-than-excellent airflow, since 44 Celsius really isn't that much and putting a lot of stress on a 350W unit isn't very hard. However, it's one of the cheapest PSUs (70€ in Finland) that can operate passively without any modifications. In a P180 it might work very well. Personally though I've had enough of Nexus PSUs in the past.

Hello,

This is a great idea -- the older Antec's had something similar, but this looks more sophisticated. It looks like their speed curves are a little too agressive, though. Now, if SeaSonic would do this, and use their excellent fan controller...

The Nexus PSUs are quiet even at full fan speed. Why should this one be any different? This design rewards you further for having low heat/good heat management independent of fans.

Look at this:

Nexus 350w

+3.3v-22A
+5v-21A
+12v1-10A
+12v2-15A
+5vsb-2A
-12v-0.3A

The 12v configuration looked very similiar to my antec 350 sp-II, so I took a hike to the antec website, and look what i found:

+3.3v-22A
+5v-21A
+12v1-10A
+12v2-15A
+5vsb-2A
-12v-0.3A
