Which Tagan 480W, 1x120mm fan or 2x80mm?

PSUs: The source of DC power for all components in the PC & often a big noise source.

Which Tagan 480W, 1x120mm fan or 2x80mm?

Post by nrh1703 » Tue Nov 22, 2005 3:05 pm

I'm looking to buy either a Tagan 480W U22 or U15.

The price difference is not an issue. Power requirements aren't huge (soon to be Opteron 165/170, 4x samsung HDs, 1x rarely used dvdrw, matrox p650 pcie and a tv card). The U15 has easycon connectors but I'm not that fussed about that either.

My only concerns are noise and heat. I've read that Tagan's are very quiet but people don't always mention which model, just the wattage. I've also read that they can get warmer than other PSUs. Is one worse than the other? The U22 has 2x80mm fans and U15 has 1x120mm fan.

Any response would be appreciated.

Thanks

What case?
If in a 180 I would say the 2 80s.
If in a more conventional case where the PSU is on the top back of the case then the 120 would make more since.

It's going in a P160. I figured the 120mm would be best but just wanted to make sure.

Hi there I have had 3 Tagen's here's the low down all 3 have failed and had to be replaced under warranty and one of the 3 is comming up for another replacement the dreaded ticking again!!

Aprt from that the UO1 and U22 series are the quietest the 120mm fan U15 580 I have is FAR more noisy than the other 2.

Hope this helps also the warranty although they do get replaced it's eventually when they can be bothered I E mailed 4 or 5 times over 2 weeks for one of them before they replied, the best thing to do is to E mail them before you buy that way you can judge for yourself their service.
