By silent I assume you mean without a fan. I wasn't even aware there were fanless modular PSUs. A lot of help I am

today i have a 430 S12 with

4400+
X1800XT512 ( fan at 20% )
1 Raptor
WD1200JS
WD2500KS

an seasonic are silent .. but not modular

tagan or liberty are my options but i son't know how silent are

Antec NeoHE perhaps? Its not silent, but its very quiet and it has modular cables. Silent=absolute=no noise whatsoever. Something very quiet can be "effectively silent" or "virtually silent" since the noise is so low you can´t hear it, but it still makes noise

At least the earlier versions had some incompatibility problems* with some mobos, but judging by the SPCR Review it certainly seems to be very quiet. Probably the quietest PSU with modular cables available.

*read the postscript on page five in the review, the problem is apparently solved.

Here's what Mike had to say about the noise of the Liberty:

The noise level of the Liberty at lower loads was modest. At 21 dBA@1m, it should be quiet enough for the majority of users. The fan began to ramp up once the internal temperature hit 32°C, or 150W load in our test setup, and it became fairly noisy by the time the output was raised to 200W. This kind of behavior is still above average.

Although low in volume, the quality of the fan noise at low speeds was fairly rough. I would characterize it as a low growl. As the fan increased in speed, the growl got louder and gradually turned into a low hum. Even at higher speeds, the predominant noise was low frequency.

In a medium powered system, the Liberty may well be able to do its job without ever needing to increase the fan speed. A quiet system could be built around it. But if noise is the primary concern, there are better choices. To use the Liberty for a very quiet system, a fan swap is probably necessary.

So I think if you got this PSU it would be a step backwards for you in terms of noise, but if you are prepared to tolerate this for modular cabling then it is the PSU for you. I doubt the Tagan will be any better, to be honest.

Oh, so you meant quiet, *not* silent. So I guess I was right in that there aren't any modular silent PSUs on the market.

Yes, go for it. Post your experiences with the Tagan once you have it installed in your system; I don't think SPCR has reviewed one yet (?).

I have a Liberty 400W and it is quiet. My Zalman 7000 and the stock cooler on my Radeon 9500 drown out its fan. You got me curious, though, acuaviva, so I stopped both of those along with my Yate Loon exhaust. The Liberty's fan has a very low rumble that I can ONLY hear with the case's side panel off. If I put the case back on it mostly sounds like air movement, with a touch of bearing noise. SpeedFan had the fan at 1500RPM at this point, mostly because the CPU was hitting 70 C with my fan off.

My case is halfway under my desk., FWIW.

I just purchased and installed a Enermax Liberty EL500AWT.

you might of got a lemon when you tested it. mine is almost silent. the fan runs at between 870 to 1150 rpm. all i can hear is wind noise but it blends in with my 2 120mm fans running at 7vts.

this psu is just as quiet as my 475w enermax noisetaker when it is running at fans on low.

great supply. the only complaint is the cables, i dont like the mixing of molex and sata connectors.

To expand on my last post. I did send AntecRep a message asking if Antec was working on a modular Phantom. He said they were not, but to send them the suggestion on Antec's website.

My SmartPower is pretty good, the inside fan spins up, but it never gets hot enough for the back fan to start running. It has modular sleeved cables.

I'd go with the Smartpower 2.0 500W.

Personal Opinion:
Anything but the horrible shit made by ToPower (Tagan, BeQuiet etc). Yes, they are probably quiet, but those PSUs components cook inside those things due to small airflow. Tagan (ToPower as it's the manufacturer) is either losing or lost their TUV certification in the Germany IIRC. And not to mention the 330W Tagan that was banned from finnish shops due to problem with transformer breakthrough voltage.

What are you talking about??? Aside from some compatibility problems with the NeoHE Antec's PSU's are some of the best on the market and have been getting very good reviews.

I'd also say get a SmartPower II 500W. I have one in my P180 and it runs very quiet powering my Main Rig (see sig).
