Fan mod advice for a SeaSonic S12-500

Post by CyanBC » Fri May 05, 2006 10:04 am

I recently purchased this unit
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6817151024
After my older Antec NeoPower crashed and burned (for real)

Yet a problem I have, the Seasonic is louder than my Antec was, the exhaust of the Seasonic is barely warm (and cooler than the Antec). The sound I believe is of a fan motor/chatter more than airflow. I'd like to the change the fan but I'm unsure what type of fan I can get away with in relation to needed airflow and sound level. I have two 120 Nexus case fans for Hard drive and Mobo and the rest is water cooled externally. I was concerned that If I used the nexus it wouldn’t move enough air at lower speeds. Would Nexus work or are there any other fan suggestions?

Thanks for any help!

I have a 120mm Yate Loon @ 5V in my S12-330 and the air coming out the back is still not even warm, but then I doubt my rig uses more than 100W under full load, and more like 40W at idle. If you have a high power rig you may need a fan with more CFM.

Hello,

There was an interesting discussion concering S12 fan replacement here. Perhaps it will give you some insight.

BTW, I ended up not replacing the fan in my S12 for two reasons:
1. warranty (I had an issue with the S12 once where I had to have it replaced.
2. The noise level turned out to be below my tolerance level.

Good luck. And if you do decide for a swap, please keep us posted (with pics!)
