24-pin ATX fits 20-pin mobo: Adapter necessary?

Post by Zain » Thu Jul 06, 2006 1:42 pm

So i got a Seasonic but i have a 20 pin motherboard but the 24 pin to 20 adaptor was not in the box the retailer will send me one BUT do i really need it? because i can fit the 24 pin connector onto my motherboard and the extra 4 pins just hang off IS THIS OK?

OR is the 24 pin PSU connector wired differently?

I noted they the 20 and 24 pin psu are wired the same but the 24 pin connector is missing a white wire that the 20 pin has! Whats this for?

On a motherboard fan header that supports RPM monitoring.

Or just leave it unplugged, far from essential unless your not sure whether fan is ramping up speed when gaming.
