Will the S12-430 handle a Geforce 7900GT KO?

Post by L3thal » Fri Aug 04, 2006 4:50 pm

I'm building a new system with an Evga 7900GT KO(single card, no SLI) and would like to re-use my trusty ole Seasonic S12-430. The problem is, however, that the card says it requires a min. of 450W and +12V @22A. The rest of the system will be pretty straightforward...single HD and optical, etc. I do realize, that most people today, purchase higher wattage PS's than what they actually need. A little input on this would be great.

It should do fine. You'll only have problems if you card dies, evga help desk/rma department refuse to help if you don't have so-called "approved" psu.

I'm running the 7900GT KO Superclocked with the S12-380 with no problems.

A seasonic s12 430w could handle 2 7900gt's easy with adapters. Really theres no need for a 450w psu when a 7900gt is only drawing 50w-60w peak on its own. Nvidia's suggested requirements are 350w / 22A for a 7900GTX, a 7900gt could run on less provided its a quality brand psu.
