RMA'ed a questionable Phantom 350, they offered alternative

Post by madman2003 » Fri Aug 18, 2006 3:16 am

I RMA'ed a Phantom 350 that was questionable, i just got a mail saying that they cannot get it anymore, they are offering me a Silentmaxx Fanless 400W model (the blue one).

It's packaging has been opened (it's complete), but that's all it says.

Also the warranty seems shorter, but that could be an accident (once i figure out what to do, i will mail about the warranty, because i want at least the warranty i had left on my phantom).

Is this a decent psu to offer in return for a phantom 350?

Is that the vendor offering you that? you'd be better off RMA'ing it directly to Antec.

I would not accept that. Unless they are willing to give you another Phantom 350, or a Phantom 500 because they do not have a Phantom 350, I would decline.

Try doing a RMA with Antec. You should get better results.

I'm not really looking forward to RMA'ing something abroad, also RMA'ing directly to Antec is not applicable in europe.

I also noticed that someone got a 350 replaced by a 500, i don't want a 500, because i want a passive psu, not a semi-passive psu.

Let's assume for the moment phantom 350's are no longer made, is there something bad about a silentmaxx psu?

I can also try to ask if/why the distributor doesn't keep "rma stock".

But i'd really like to know (apart from the 12pin cable length) what is considered worse about it?

You can RMA Antec power supplies in Europe (or at least you could erlier this year) they go to Holland IIRC. You have to email europe.rma@antec I think

I wouldnt accept a different PSU either, but I would consider a Phntom 500, as far as I understand its identical on the inside, with a fan bolted onto the back, read the SPCR review of the Phantom 500 for more info.

How old is it.???

If the PSU is less than 12months old your retailer should do all of the RMA'ing to Antec for a new one on your behalf. If its more than 12months old, you will have to do it. Or at least they are the rules in the UK.

You mean this one?

Silentmaxx Fanless 400W MX460-PFL01 power supply

If so i would take it; it's just a repackaged Fortron Zen with longer cables.
