What's the lowest power 80+ PSU available?

Post by Felger Carbon » Sat Dec 16, 2006 7:16 am

My computer draws 82W from the wall socket using an old-style inefficient PSU, so my actual load exclusive of the PSU is ~5xW. So I need a low-power PSU to get the benefit of the 80% efficiency at 20% of max power specification.

So far, 380W is the lowest-power 80+ PSU I know of.

seasonic makes an 80plus 300w sfx PSU, but so far i havnt seen it for sale in retail channels.

other than that, i think the seasonic 380 is the lowest.

Power bricks and DC/DC converters would probably be "80 plus effeciency", and you can get them pretty much as low as you want.

Just checked and there's a lot of PSU's qualified now: http://www.80plus.org/manu/psu/manu_psu.htm HP make the smallest (240w), but Googling the s/n, doesn't look like it's retail.

atxcases.com has it for $65 + shipping:

case-mod.com usually has it as well, but they're sold out at the moment.

That's a more efficient version of the PSU in the Antec NSK3300 that I'm planning to get this week. I need somewhere to get the 350W one then I'll sell my 300W (maybe non-80plus) one.

Seasonic doesn't respond to their emails from me but ATXCases.com was good enough to get back to me with a "late January" timeline on when the 350W SFX PSU will be sold.

CONSUMER WARNING!!!!

"atxcases.com" is one of the lowest rated sites ever over at resellerratings.com. They've been getting extremely poor ratings for over 7-8 years now. I haven't seen anyone mention them for a while, but the red flag popped up when I saw it in your post. I figured they had finally gone out of business.

*Be very careful about ordering anything from them.*

thanks. their website appears much too generic and part of me was thinking it might be dodgy.

Jameco has the Seasonic SS-300SFD 80plus for $66.05. Site claims they're in stock.

I sent off a pleasantly-worded inquiry to Jameco to see if they have any plans to stock the 350W one. We'll see.
