Stats based on returned items starting from April 2006.
And those rates are probably return rates, not failure rates as stated by the article translated from French to English.
They come from the number of sold items shipped back to the e-shop. So customers unhappy about a perfectly working unit are taken into account too. (last year they were at least)

As a reminder, the rates for the year 2005 are in this SPCR topic : Power supplies return rates

I wanted to update the old thread, but I procrastinated for the whole afternoon.

Hopefully they will soon publish HDD return rates, like last year.

Doesn't look convincing. Tt, for example, sells PSUs originally made by HEC, CWT, Sirtec and Seventeam. Which of the four have a 1.6% failure rate?

Doesn't surprise me that Antec has highest return rate, most are probably NeoHEs.

I was expecting the same but in fact it's quite the contrary :
For Antec the entire power supply range has very high failure rates: 21.6%, 18.1% and 17.3% for the Antec SmartPower 2.0 500, 350 and 400 Watts. Not a single product has a rate below 2% and the best one is the Neo HE 430 watts at 2.6%.
Judging from SPCR's recommended PSUs article, " High incompatibility issues appear to have been largely solved in the first quarter of 2006." and the return rate statistic started in April 2006, maybe that's the reason.

CWT.
Failed (inflated and/or leaked) capacitors, I guess.

Seasonic.

(looking around) Does anybody want to ask why the most recommended PSUs here at SPCR and Xbit are Seasonics? :)

Humm, then again there's always the people that buy something that dies after 1 week and they swear off company for ever but never send back the busted PSU?

ever buy something that was garbage but returning it wasn't worth the effort?

I always think buying computer hardware is like buying a "gift card", half the time people never get thier money's worth.

Those Antec failure rates are just dismal.

Antec SP = CWT with Fuhjyuu (sp?) capacitors.

Poor airflow / decently high temperatures = appalling failure rate.

Notice where FSP and Seasonic are on the list.
Where's Ultra? lol ...
