There only one solid cap in this PSU,see third picture above at the rightside of the fanconnector.

I ordered a S11 330W to replace my Asus A45GA which is not so efficient.

I just replaced my Asus A45GA PSU for a Seasonic S12 11 330W and my Intel System(T2600,Asus N4L-VM DH...) went from 100W to 40W idle so quite happy with the efficiëncy.
The sound is another story  so i'm going to change the fan or the screws for silicondamping.

Urgh. Hmm. I'll have to see if I go Corsair HX620, S12-650 Energy+, or see if an S12II-600 is going to exist for my next build.

*shrugs*

(yes, it is glorious overkill... but I've already got an S12-600 rev3 (?) in there now)

I noticed that the stores here stopped selling the regular S12
and instead the S12II ....
That's not good for the silence :) Is it really such a difference..because
in the review he was positive about it...
If so what would be a second option in the 430W line then...
Just want to know :-)

The old S12s were silent. The new S12IIs are merely quiet.

You can and will hear them, but it's not like they're a bad kind of PSU. Just not as silent as it was hoped they would be. Plus there are all sorts of complaints about the buzz -- I notice some in mine, but it doesn't bother me most of the time.

You could try the Neo HE(beware the failure rates), or even a passive model if your airflow can take it. Why not take a gander at Forton(FSP) or Nexus PSUs.

so the "older" S12 series are more silent than the new S12-II?

if so, it's good to know, since i bought a S12 430W at the end of Jan.2007.

Quick revision if you didn't read it all: old S12 has slow fan, new S12II has medium-speed fan. Faster fan is automatically noisier, also has an ugly noise character.

If you RMA an S12 there might be an option to upgrade... but you'll have to ask them for it. In a standard case you'd get a new or refurbished S12.

i don't like the sound of "refurbished", it sound like they are sending you used parts :?

They are, it happens all the time. Most just don't know it.

It would mean huge financial losses if slightly broken or malfunctioning parts just got scrapped. It's better for everyone to repair and restore them, then recycle them with a factory guarantee... I dare say they will work just as well as a fresh and flawless product.

yeah but most companies won't ship their parts to China/Taiwan/Indonesia for repair and waiting like 1-2 months for the part.

i bet they have a refurbished parts stock somewhere at the company in USA already.

well i think my 7600GT is a refurbished one, they forgot(?) to send me the original box and softwares cds included originally with the card.

i say that cos when i play games full-screen, in some of them anyway, it "blinks" (a black screen this time) for a fraction of second, like in that game called RF Online, no problem when i go in, but when i quit the game, after a while it "blinks" once. Maybe it's only drivers conflict, i'll have to use DriverCleaner to clean all ATI and Nvidia drivers before installing latest drivers.

but since the S12-II do more noise...well i'm not really attracted to it.
