SilverStone Nightjar NJ45NF Passive PSU
Have anyone tried this one? What do you think about it, Will it be any good?
I'm curious to try it on an empty low-chamber in an Antec P182

It should go Retail for about 200$ (1300 Swedish Crowns)

Well, I've had it for a couple of days now and I'm very happy with it. Despite being just $25 more than my old Silverstone 300W fanless, it is substantially heavier (bigger heatsinks for the higher wattage) and more well thought out. All cables except for molex/floppy cables are sleeved and the motherboard main power and aux power cables are long enough to reach the top of an ATX motherboard (they also each have a part that can break off if you have an older mobo like mine). Connections are plentiful, two PCI-E 6 pin (one can be 8 pin) for vid cards, six SATA for HDs, six molex and two floppy (so you can power your sound card if necessary in addition to a floppy). As expected at this price bracket, unit has no coil wine and so is silent. Essentially the only con is the hefty price but I have no regrets at this point. The only weird thing is that the sticker on the unit only mentioned 240V but I plugged it in to 110V and it works just fine - I think there just might be different packaging for different parts of the world and somehow a unit destined for Europe got shifted over to the US instead but since they are all universal voltage it's irrelevant other than to note it. Kudos to frozencpu.com for having an in stock indicator and disgustingly fast turnaround and reasonably priced shipping (Fedex 2-day just under $17 meaning I got the unit for under $200 shipped).
The ST45NF is now listed on 80 PLUS website as an "80 PLUS Bronze" PSU:

Very nice, if i was building a PC from scratch i would consider it, although its qutie a bit more expensive that other options. But then my Modu82+ is still the loudest part of my system (the only part i can hear most of the time in fact). It'll be a year or 2 before i consider upgrading though and by then im sure better, cheaper models will be available.

I hope to see an SPCR review soon and hopefully a more efficient version of the ST30NF will be released. It’s £116 in the UK at Scan and I paid about £72 for the ST30NF from the same source. I’m very happy with it and if I ever required more oomph I’d be tempted by this although there are much better power supplies these days that can output in this range with very low noise so it’s not such an obvious choice as it would have been 1 or 2 years ago.
430W for the 12V rail is nice an it’s also rated for 500W peak; 180Vac~264Vac only.

Anandtech has a review up:

Sounds great in my opinion, and the air holes make it a great candidate for mounting in a p182 with a 5V 120mm fan. I'd do it in a second if my Antec Phantom 500W wasn't running in the exact same way already

Not really, if you select your components carefully it is a fantastic unit that can anchor an effectively silent gaming rig when taking into account ambient noise. From my experience with an SSD, my rig was inaudible over ambient even late at night. Now that I'm back to the Raptor (for other than noise reasons) that isn't the case but when I switch back to SSD the rig will be effectively silent again.Scoop wrote:It would be my choice for future HTPC build, not that it would need a 450W PSU but silence is the key. It would even cut in a gaming rig but then again it's kind of wasted cash since there'll be other components making more noise than some of the quiet PSUs.
