For a GTX 280 will the Corsair HX620 be enough for it (mainly concerning the 12v thing, not too sure what that even is, any info?). At those usages will it be quiet enough in a P182.

Its rated for 284W TDP but nVidia says its consumption is around 134W's... So depending on your rest components it should be ok. But do be noted that Die-shrink version will come soon after. Then you have over priced and hot card on your hands.

If you do not have hurry, I'd urge you wait bit so nVidia gets 55nm versions out. When 280's get released soon I expect 8800 GT's price become down crashing. They might be better choice if you do not absolutely need GT 280.

To be fair, we dont know how soon that will be. It could be in some months, it could be in a year, so it will be a gamble to wait.

That said, much points toward the GTX280 being highly overpriced for its performance right now.

I think the PSU can easily handle one GTX280.
However, a 620W might not be the best choice for it (getting too high for the PSU's best efficiency, and maybe make the PSU quite hot (and thus faster fan speed)).

what would probably be the best choice then, I need a modular power supply which isn't so much more expensive than the Corsair (which has got great reviews on reliability etc. so i dont want to be sacrificing quality). A hard basket to fill :( suggestions?

Or Zalman ZM850-HP, if the price is right in UK. Here it is 20€ more then Modu 625+ and 30€ more then HX620.

ZM1000-HP is the best power supply ever tested by SPCR.
