Only 1 FDD Cable w/ Silenx 400w?!

Post by dr150 » Thu Jun 12, 2003 1:42 am

I just bought this thing.

Not only did it raise my temp 5c to 60c (setting off the alarm on my Athlon 1800+), BUT only comes with 1 FDD cable.

I need 2......One for FDD, and the other to run my Adaptec DuoConnect (USB2 & Firewire card).

CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM? Do I need an adapter of some sort? I have IDE power cables to spare on my Silenx 400w....are there any adapters to hook up one of these cables to power my Adaptec card?.............

An where would I buy it?.............

Thanks...........

Try some computer speciality stores. I know I have a spare 4 pin to FDD power connnector adapter. I'm sure you can find some Y type adapters too.

Do you have any case fans? (if so, what setup?)

No, I don't have any case fans. Never needed them as I don't OC.

But with the Silenx, it has brought my CPU temp to dangerous levels. NOW, I need case fans, a better heat sink, better thermal paste just to make the SILENX jibe. It's going to cost me another $70 :o

60c should not set off alarms. It is something to monitor closely, but its perfectly fine. Increase the airflow in the case, and use a 80mm exhaust fan running at 7volts (less than $20 with fanmate). Also open up the front bezel, you will easily get down to cooler temperatures.

You can find the adaptors all over the place - four pin to floppy four pin.

eg:

I actually chopped off my two floppy connectors and converted them to regular four pin connectors, as I have no need for them.
