Nexus NX8060/50 vs Corsair HX520?

Post by Nik7304 » Mon Jul 06, 2009 6:56 am

I'm planning on doing a system upgrade later in the year, but I might have to move ahead with the PSU. My office started smelling like burnt circuitboard all of a sudden, so yanked everything out and opened the case. Couldn't see anything, but the power supply exhaust smelled suspiciously. Also get an electronic high-pitched whine when I switch on the mains power now. Didn't use to be this bad so maybe one of the capacitors has gone or something. It's still working ok, just too noisy (will switch after posting this...).

For my planned system; a socket 1156 i5/i7 (until they sort out the naming), one GTX260 graphics card, two hard drives, I was thinking of the HX520. As I might need to forge ahead a bit, I was looking around and came across the Nexus NX8060 and 8050.

So, the question is: any benefit to any one of these three PSUs? Will I be better off going for the 8060, which is more expensive, if I want to upgrade to a GTX295 or something in the future, or will the HX520 do? Or should I be looking at something like the VX550?

Update on this: did some more digging and figured that a GTX260 will be a tight squeeze in my Sonata, so have ordered a P183 and a CP-850 instead.

Kidney, anyone...?

Heh!

Good luck. CP-850 is expensive but seems to be worth of every penny.

Thanks! :) Well, it was only a few pounds more than the Nexus, which I was leaning towards anyway, so figured I might as well get that since I might need the bigger case anyway.
