Corsair HX450 discontinued? replaced?
A low wattage, high efficiency, modular power supply... that makes a lot of sense to me. But now one of the best ones has dissapeared from all swedish retailers, and a quick glance at american retailers amazon.com and newegg.com tells the same story. What is happening to the Corsair HX 450?

Here is for hoping that the reason is that an even better version is coming soon.

This makes me very sad indeed. Even though their logic may be sound I still see a place for low wattage PSU's. In my opinion its all about getting peak efficiency of the PSU at the actual power usage of the PC. I would even pay a price premium to get this.b_rubenstein wrote:A Corsair rep on another forum said the HX450 would not be replaced. The difference in cost to make a 450w and 650w PS of the same quality and features is negligible. To make money on the low powered ones the price has to be so high that very few are sold.
So, now where do I turn for a low wattage and modular PSU?

For most PS designs efficiency drops off significantly below 20% load so it made some sort of theoretical sense to not buy an excessively over powered PS. (It's theoretical because a 10% difference in efficiency below a 100w draw isn't a whole lot of watts.
Now, however, one can just buy the SeaSonic X650 Gold and not have to worry about low power draw situations because its efficiency is very good down too low power levels due to its design. Plus, at lower power levels the fan will never come on.
