OCZ StealthStream 400W

Post by doveman » Mon Jun 21, 2010 2:49 am

Has anyone got any experience with the OCZ StealthStream 400W PSU, in terms of noise?

There's a rather in-depth review of it in terms of components and efficiency here: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/522 but it doesn't say anything about noise.

I'm sure, being a budget PSU, it's not going to be in the same league as the Recommended PSUs, but I was thinking of getting one temporarily until the fanless Seasonic PSUs are available and then putting it into an HTPC for my brother, who's not as noise-sensitive as me, so I was just wondering if it would suffice for that really.

Well having got the OCZ StealthStream 400W as a birthday present, I can state that it's far from quiet, with a rather rattly fan.

However, it's a vast improvement on the EZCool 400W I was using, and as I'm still running the stock AMD X4 640 CPU fan, it's not really too intrusive from my sofa, so it will do until I can afford to get a better PSU or fix my EF28 DC-DC board and return to fanless nirvana :)

This PS? http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/ ... Review/794

I got one of these when it was on sale. Works fine, nothing special. The stock fan didn't have very good bearings. I replaced it with a YL fan and now it's very quiet. Keep in mind that it has 140mm so there is are limited choices. I wouldn't pay more than $40 for one.

Yeah, that's the one.

I might replace the fan sometime but I'll probably just put in a PC I'm building for my brother, who won't notice or care about the fan noise.

It was on sale for £29 but delivery was another £8!

Do a fan-swap!! You could easily swap it with, say, a Yate Loon D14SL-12 fan. They move quite a bit of air at very low dB.

Yeah I probably will at some point, but not until I've had it a while in case any faults show up and I need to send it back.
