Change PSU FAN - need advice

I want to change the fan on my crappy noisy PSU, but I'm not sure if I've chosen the appropriate fan.
The original is a Globe Fan RL4Z S1402512M
Rated current 6-13.8V, 0.30 A
Starting voltage 6V
Rated Input Power 3.60
I want to change it with a Noiseblocker NBSilent XK2 140mm

The rated current, starting voltage and rated input power are all different between the fans (and so are the dB 25-->19.5
)
I just wanted to make sure I can do this fan swap OK.

You are replacing a 1200 rpm fan with an 1100 rpm model, but I don't see that would make much difference. Current fan is likely to be 2 wire with a 2 pin header on the PSU circuit board, so you may have to modify the replacement fan connector.

From the reviews I've read the current fan really is two pin - two pin fan header. I was tinking that you could just connect the fan header from the new fan to the fan header on the PSU, but leaving one of the "holes" with no pin. Is there any other modification I have to do?

It depends on the fan header on the PSU circuit board. If it is open then it will take a three pin fan connector, and the third wire (yellow - fan rpm sensing) remains but connects to nothing. If the fan header is a socket, you may find that it will just pull off and then the 3 pin fan connector will fit. Observe the cable orientation first, if you do this. Failing this, the fan connector can be reduced to two wires by cutting off the third yellow wire part with a sharp craft knife. The yellow wire can then be removed, or trimmed back as far as possible.

Also, I have a very limited supply of 140mm in the shops around here, but are there any other 140mm fans you would like to suggest?

It looks like the best option will be to trim the 3 pin connector to fit the 2 pin socket. Your choice of 140mm is fine, it will be quieter and it should have a rather better quality bearing.

No need to trim the 3 pin connector. simply remove the 2 pin SOCKET on the PSB board and connect the 3 pin connector like you would the 2 pin connector.
