PicoPSU for a home server / NAS

Post by malda » Sat Oct 16, 2010 4:44 am

Hello,

I want to upgrade my home server and get better power efficiency.

Current server is built on a Intel Little Valley 2 (BLKD201GLY2) motherboard, with 1GB DDR2 RAM, 1 optical drive and 1 Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 320GB. PSU is noname 400W, which has got IMHO really bad power efficiency (server's power consumption is about 60W).
I want to rebuild my machine.

Wanted configuration:
MB Intel Little Valley 2 (BLKD201GLY2) + 1GB DDR2 RAM
optical drive will be removed
Seagate Barracuda will be removed
Added HDDs: 2x WD7500AAKS (just data HDDs, samba share, won't be running all the time - will be in sleep mode)
1x 2,5" system HDD
1x PCI SATA controller

Would it be possible to supply this machine with PicoPSU (80 or 120W version)? What about peak load, would it be OK?

Thanks for your answers!

stick a kill-a-watt at the wall outlet and see how much your current nas is running at idle and load and then decide the right size of psu to get.
