Replacement for TX-750?

Hi, I just made a new quiet build. Unfortunately my "recycled" PSU is now the loudest component.

I have a Antec P182 with an additional tricool fan in the front-middle. All the fans have been "volted down" from 12 to 7 and then put on low speed - (below my sound requirement).

My system is a 2500k, with a Zalman CNPS 10X Quiet (set to low), MSI 570GTX Twin Frozr, 8 GB ram, an old 7200 rpm 1TB HD and a Crucial C300 SSD 128 GB for OS.

So my question is: Would it make any real difference if I exchanged my Corsair TX-750 with for example an AX-850.

My goal was to make a "great buy" silent computer. I do game from time to time, and it is only when im not gaming that the fan noise bothers me.

FYI I might be able to sell my PSU for 100 USD (3 months old) and buy a new AX-850 for 200 USD - making it an easier decision to upgrade.

Seasonic X seems extremely overpriced (150% vs corsair ax same W) at my place (Denmark), but any other recommendations is appreciated.

Thanks in advance
PyroGen

It might not be as quiet as an X-series, but the Antec TP-750 is pretty darn quiet.

The issue here I think is the fan in the TX-750. It is a Yate Loon 140mm fan, model D14BH-12, which has a top speed of 2800 rpm. Clearly this is designed for high performance users such as gamers to whom quietness is a secondary consideration. So another possibility would be to consider a fan swop. The Yate Loon is only a two wire fan, but the 140mm size limits the options as does the need for a low startup voltage when used in a PSU. Another factor is that the TX-750 has fairly small heatsinks for its power capacity, so there is a reliance on the airflow that a 140mm running to 2800 rpm can provide. All this would seem to add up to a PSU swap being more practical than a fan swop. This being the case the AX-750 or AX-850 look to be some of the better candidates since they are effectively OEM Seasonic X-series PSUs at a lower price. Either of these PSUs would be a substantial improvement, like the X-series they do not even start the fan until load reaches a certain level.

I noted that he lived in Denmark and therefore I wrote to him in Danish.
