Antec BP550/HTPC PSU

Post by darunium » Fri Jun 10, 2011 1:11 pm

Hi All,

Building a new HTPC and got an Antec BP-550 for it because it was a great price (forty-something), almost modular, and the newegg reviews were extremely positive, but I was wondering if anyone here has had personal experience with it before I crack it open? Any other suggestions for what I should look into at competative pricing?

I'm sticking it into a GD04, and all it has to power is an i3-2100, a SSD and HDD, a Blu-Ray player, and *maybe* someday in the future a passively cooled VGA card (http://www.anandtech.com/show/4429/comp ... -slot-gpus), so frankly I think I can get away with 300W as is, maybe a little more if I plan to put a card in there.

So, any experiences with the BP-550? Or any suggestions for an ATX power supply that, ideally:
- is quiet
- ~300W
- modular
?

The Nexus NX-5000 they used in the spcr review looks tempting but the newegg reviews show real reliability issues in the R3 version.

Thanks!
