Node 304 600W PSU recommendation?

I'm looking to fit the quietest PSU for my system, everything to be overclocked.

i7 6700k ~4.5Ghz
GTX 970 1500/4000mhz
3TB HDD, 2xSSD

I know I could run this on a lower wattage PSU, but I rather buy a one with more watts just so the fan doesn't kick in when gaming.

I've seen the BeQuiet Straight Power 10, but I'm not sure it'll fit.
I'm prepared to remove the PSU bracket, and ice also heard about rotating the PSU 180*

Any advice?

A bigger PSU doesn't necessarily guarantee that the fan won't kick in at full load as it is by temperature, not power, plus if you have components like that overlocking at full load I doubt the PSU will be the loudest component. I wouldn't therefore assume that the PSU must be able to run fanless at full load.

Don't mean for it to run fanless, but under 1000rpm would be good.

See all my fans run at fixed speed of around 700rpm hence currently my seasonic m12ii bronze 620w gets very loud compared to the rest of the rig. I'm happy to run the temps quite high regarding the CPU (~70*c when gaming). Just ramp the speeds up for stability testing.

I know if I can make it a bit quieter it'll just be the GPU fan which will be the loudest and that I'm ok with.

For about the same amount of money you could consider the EVGA SuperNOVA 650 P2 currently priced at £96 from Scan. The ECO fan feature is switchable so at least you have the choice between a constantly running fan or not. The fan turn on point in ECO mode would probably not be reached with your current setup, subject to ambient temperature.

For under £80 Corsair have the 550w and 650w RMx Gold modular units, the difference in price between the two is probably only around £5. The 650w does push the fan turn on point a bit further. Given this and the miniscule price difference the 650w is not surprisingly the best seller of the two, at least that is according to Scan.

EVGA is too big though 150 x 86 x 165 mm (WxHxD)

Good point, according to Corsair the RM650x is 150mm x 86mm x 160mm - will that fit? I can see why you are interested in the V550, it is only 140 x 86 x 150 mm.

Yeah exactly why the CM is looking good, but no real data on the fan profile for the new models.

I know the BeQuiet is good in terms of quietness, that is also 160mm, but nobody seems to have tried to fit one in the Node 304, nor the Corsair RMx 160mm supplies.

Maybe the modular cables on top of 160mm will be too much length to fit =/

Yes, should be fine - Gold efficiency, modular cables, small size. Is a classic fanned PSU in the sense that it has a 120mm fan that runs at fairly slow speeds up to around 300w load and only after that does it become noisy which should not trouble you.

I note that the current amazon.co.uk prices are £98 for the V550, £108 for the V650 and £114 for the V750. But these prices include free delivery while Scan's minimum delivery charge is around £5. Bearing in mind that you are overclocking then maybe the extra £10 for the V650 can be justified.

The Corsair RM650x Gold fully modular is probably stand out good value at under £80.

Best PSU for the an Oveclocked Node304 with dedicated GPU is Seasonic G-550 (or G 650 if want more power), if you read a lot into the OCN 304 owners club you will see a lot uses this PSU because of the way the modular cables connection ends up below the GPU and the none modular at the beginning of the case, bigger than this or with other place of modular connection.... it wont fit with a long dedicated GPU (unless you dont use the mounts of the case for the PSU). I believe another option is Coolermaster V550 but im not sure on the model, but try to read all OCN posts you will find there.

I'm already not using the PSU bracket so I was wondering if there are quieter PSUs than the Seasonic G and CM V PSUs in this scenario.

G series is nowhere to be silent, besides other problems (does not apply to G-360, this model is different platform).

Initial fitting of the Corsair RMx 650 and MSI GAMER GTX 970 into a Node 304.

I've sent the 8 pin CPU power and 24 pin ATX down the side of the PSU at the front of the case.

I've zip tied the 24 pin ATX down using the case PSU fan grill as an anchor so that it is tight up against the PSU face and this way won't foul the GPU.

PSU bracket has been removed, the front panel still sits fine without modding the plastic pin at the bottom right.

That PSU is now the quitest noise-generating component in there. Do you plan to continue? If not, getting 650W version was just a waste of money, RM550x would be just OK.

I'll be adding my MSI GAMER GTX 970 soon as I get my hands on a 6700k. And for CPU cooling I'll be using my Thermalright Venomous X with a 120mm Yate Loon medium speed fan.

Loudest component will end up being the GPU when gaming but I'm sitting 8 feet away from the PC so it should be very quiet

Everything will be heavily overclocked, the GTX 970 is at 1550mhz core 3700mhz memory at 1.23v which can consume about 300W as its running a modded bios to bypass power limits. Then the CPU should be hitting 150W probably at 4.5Ghz. That's why I picked the 650w. But of overhead and run a lower percentage load for lower fan speeds, think it hits 600rpm at 40% load.

I also discovered on the Asus z170i board I can turn off case fans below 40c CPU temp which is nice.

That's 450 W and I think it won't be even that much, those small cores have problems conducting that heat at such values. In well cooled case, the fan of the semi-fankess PSUs starts spinning much later…ell, that's not 40 °C though

Hardly. In the UK both supplies are virtually the same price, the 650W only costs £5 (around €7 or $7 USD) more than the 550W.

@jasjeet did you encounter any issue connecting sata cable into the socket near the psu (saw it from one of your pics), in between psu and memory? TIA
