You can mount it vertically or horizontally but NEVER mount it on a slope or at an angle - over a period of time you will damage the drive.

The other major manufacturers didn't say much about the allowable orientations for a drive. IIRC Seagate said any orientation is OK. Whatever that means...

Yea, mounting a HD vertically shouldn't be a problem as the previous line of Dell Dimensions circa 1999-2000 used cases that placed the HD vertically at the front of the case (I would know as I had a version of the non-branded case used by Dell -- a case I would NOT recommend, btw, for housing a power system).
