To find out if there are "more than usual" bad Samsung-drives, we need to know how many drives we collectivly have. Please list the number of drives you have:)

As Ironic as it is, it seems that my HD survived for about three more ours after I wrote this. I guess I would now like to add a vote in the category I forgott to include above..

Have 1 and it doesn´t work...

I have 2x 1203N and 2x 1614N. Both 1614Ns have failed.

mine was a 1614N as well, perhaps the problem is modellspecific?

2 1614's and a 1604. All are running fine. (knock wood)

1604 is from last May, 1614's are from September.

I think it would be more interesting to see a separate voting for those with Samsung SATA drives.

This is making me nervous... I was literaly just about to call the local computer store and place an order for a 1614... Maybe it would be better to go with the 1213?

Tho I guess this chart only shows a 10% failure rate. Thats not bad is it?

More than 5, all work great, all sound pretty much the same - 80, 120 & 160G models, only 2mb cache versions.

One 1614N for me, one for a friend, no troubles with either. Mine's run 24/7 since November.

I have a 1604N. It is louder than I thought before buying it, and it vibrates quite a lot (it causes the whole PC case to vibrate). I was rather underwhelmed with it after I got it. Oh well, at least it is big and fast...

I have had 3x SV0802N running in my server for about 15 months, and 2x SP1614N for about 3 months now, all without any issues. :D All activly cooled (gently, nothing much, but still active). I have this very morning placed an order for another SP1614N.

I have found the Fujitsu's I have of a specific vintage (3-4 years) are now giving some issues, and so I'm not wanting to keep on using them - drives are not so expensive anymore... My older Fujitsu's are fine however, and I never had ones from the series that had all the negative publicity.

And all my Seagates have been fine.

I recently used 6 SP1614N's from Newegg in a media server, Linux software RAID 5, 24/7 for about 30 days now. All sound alike, very quiet compared to what I am used to. So far so good...

Serial numbers:

0735J1FWC00828, 0735J1FWC03300, 0735J1FWC06607, 0735J1FWC06797, 0735J1FWC06883, 0735J1FWC06935

All TM100-24 BIOS.

err, I am rather ashamed to need to admit this, but upon closer inspection it seems that my HD-brekdown was selfinflicted... I used cablestraps to suspend the drive and it seems as the vibrations of the HD caused them to snap, both at the same time, so my HD hit the floor and broke instantaneously...

*sigh* Stoopid me...

No, that's obviously a design flaw in the Samsung drive. They should come with a padded, helium-filled bladder on them. :)

Could you expound on the nature of the "cable straps" that you were using so that others of us may be careful to avoid using the same type of materials?

I have a SP1213C and a SP1614C, which are 120 gig and 160 gig SATA drives. Both drives have worked without a single problem for several months now. Been very quiet also :)
