Wich Samsung 40gb model is more silent?

Post by DG » Sat Apr 10, 2004 5:21 pm

Are all the Spinpoints silent or just a few models? The 40gb version, has one platter or more? What temperatures should i expect?
Same questions for the 80Gb version...

ps: p-ata models...

The quiet(er) Spinpoints are P80 which are 80Gb/platter, so don't think you will find a 40G version.

Temperatures depend on airflow & ambient air temp adjacent to the drive: less than 10C above ambient means you are well configured with good airflow. Anything more you need to explain/justify to yourself.

As an owner of 2 40GB Samsungs, I can tell you that they are DAMN quiet seeking. When my virus scanner runs at 2am, I've only noticed it when it gets to my other, louder-seeking drives.

I can't tell you much about the idle noise signature though because I've got other louder parts in my case.
