High Frequency pusultating whine with 2x NIDEC Spinpoints

Post by anthonysimilion » Sat Nov 13, 2004 5:38 pm

Hi,

Anyone else experiencing a high frequency 'pulsating' whine with 2x NIDEC Spinpoints? I'm assuming it occurs when the frequencies both drives are producing 'cross' over each other.

It's very annoying! - I'm assuming suspension won't do much...

Yes, this happens all the time. I do not have Spinpoints but this happens with any other drives when you have more than one of the same make. It's called the resonance. Suspension may actually help here. Most of the resonance occurs not in the air but on the case. The vibrations are transferred to the case and when two drives get into a resonance the case vibrates stronger. Try to make an experiment with decoupling the drives from the case - you should notice that the resonance either goes away completely or becomes much weaker.
